Choosing a barbie

• Barbies come in two types — covered ones, also known as kettle barbecues, and uncovered.

• Covered ones can also be used as an outdoor oven with the cover closed.

• There are small ones suitable for balconies and if you only cook fish, sausages, chops or steaks that cook quickly, a small uncovered barbecue is ideal.

• Gas barbecues are generally more expensive, but easier to use than coal.
