Many countries have a favourite version of pancakes - whether thick or thin, sweet or savoury. While we think of them as thin rounds folded over a sprinkling of sugar and squeeze of lemon, Americans love them thick with maple syrup, the French enjoy crepes as delicate as doilies, the Irish have a potato version and Russians have blinis.
